linkI really like stub and herbs, just so you know... the review'll reflect that.
i walked in the back of stub and herbs off the deck that is essentially the outdoor seating, I was a little afraid because the miller girl, the new belgium logo, coors and bud posters were displayed... I was like yipes, but not to worry, they just keep the trash out back. Walking in I collapsed on their square bar (very similar to goose island clybourn) about 36 seats square with seating around the bar, and an off room with pinball, darts and videogames... Downtairs had another section which essentially was the party room, and as the waitresses had on the back of their shirts, "the bathroom's downstairs" Kinda like that... plus it gives you a reason to stare...
The beer selection further aswages any worry that this place is nothing but quality... I've heard that this place is co owned by surly, so 4 surly beers on tap wasn't a surprise, the tyranena beers were on in force as S&H just had a tyranena event and the kegs hadn't kicked... they had another 10 beers I hadn't had and a few must haves which is always a surprise from the boy who's used to having everything on the menu. I do like surprises and new and vintage beers are nice. Stub and herbs sports 32 taps in all and a good selection of the regions beers with smattering of outsider beers that aren't from denver, milwaukee, or st. louis... plus a very nice bottle list for the person that's being picky.
Service was on point as there were only a handful of people, but the water I asked for was served posthaste as I needed it and I had a bartender that didn't look thru me and got me the water and the beer I asked for...
I had a chicken sandwich and fries, not anything superb, but I was hungry and it was food... haven't cracked the menu by any means.
This place to me is a must hit, it's a really good example of what's going on in the american craft beer scene, tho they have a few imports on tap as well.
One thing that stood out to me... this place likes turnover so beer specials during happy hour make that possible... 3.50 devil over a barrel pints... omg, the possibilities.
