At the heart of the leafy suburban village of Dundrum, just beyond the goliath of a shopping mall, sits Deveney's off licence. The shop has been providing drink to the local area since 1909 and is still in family hands.

It's one of the most atmospheric off licences in Dublin, full of bric-a-brac and breweriana. The range of wines and spirits is vast -- the latter having won them awards in recent years -- but they take beer seriously here too and always have a well-balanced collection from around the world.

Stock comes and goes, depending on availability, but there's almost always something new and interesting from some corner of the globe, and Ruth or Tom are usually more than happy to tell you about it.

Well worth dropping in to if you're at the nearby theatre, cinemas or restaurants.
