A little bit off the beaten track, The Black Sheep attracts a crowd consisting mainly of office workers and cinema-goers. The ambiance resembles more a continental cafΓ© than an Irish pub: tables and chairs dominate over soft furnishings and the acoustics mean it can get quite loud when crowded.

The draught beer selection is excellent, consisting mainly of Irish craft beers though with also some taps from further abroad: Sierra Nevada and BrewDog are both resident. There's also a large range of bottled imports and regular special offers. Four handpumps mean there's almost always a choice of cask ales.

As part of the Cottage Group chain it also carries the full range of Galway Bay beers brewed at The Oslo in Salthill.

The food is smart-casual, being mostly sandwiches, burgers, stews and pies. Service is efficient and the staff are knowledgeable.
