This is surprisingly small facility, located in a barn off a rural road in the middle of nowhere. For sure, I thought we were lost, until we noticed the Butternuts logo.

There's a tasting room in the building, where we tasted a few of the available brews (Porkslap, the hefeweizin, stout, and the IPA). I've had them all before, and never really liked any of them. Being there in person didn't help much. The hefeweizin tasted overpoweringly of clove, and Porkslap has very little taste.

We didn't request a tour, but I had to walk through most of the building to get to the bathroom, so I essentially had a self guided tour. Looked pretty much what you'd expect from a small brewery located in a barn.

This location is strictly a brewery with 3 beers currently in production. While visiting the baseball hall of fame, we dropped over to this location to see if they had a gift shop or any sort of tour. This place is BFE, located in what looked like an old barn of some flavor. Walking up to the door, all that was visible was the brewing equipment. We poked around the building for a little while to see if we were missing anything. As we were going to get in the car and leave, someone came to the door and asked if we wanted to look around. We went in and talked with the head brewer Chuck (and a woman I assumed to be his wife) for a while, learning about the equipment, recipes, and processes he uses for the brewing. He opened a can of each of the brews for us to try. He had no issue with us just walking around to check things out on our own while he took care of some business. We asked where we might be able to buy some of his product and were told a list of places in towns we didn't know. After listing all those places, they told us we could buy it from them too, which is what we did. There is nothing formal here, so we were lucky that someone was there to let us in and to chat with us. I would recommend a call ahead here, maybe even a few days in advance. Chuck was incredibly accommodating to us, taking time out of his brew day for a couple of schmucks from Illinois. It is a small operation, but it was interesting to see my first craft canning line. We walked away with a mixed case of beer for $20, so the price is right.
