Nail Creek Brewpub

Cool old building in Utica NY, wood floors and brick walls. They didnt have any of their own beers on tap as they typically have only one beer on tap at a time, and they were sold out. So i had a four flight sampler of three ipa’s and one raspberry wit. The raspberry wit was made by Artisanal Brew works from saratoga springs and was somewhat sour, kind of a cross between a wit beer and a sour, but i enjoyed it. Then i had Saranac’s Legacy IPA, this is a tasty moderately bitter beer with woody earthy hops. The next beer was Ommegang’s Hopstate. This ipa was a little more fruity, but not much more but with more earthy hops, but this is a well balanced beer. For lunch i had the short rib tacos and a garden mix salad with a vinaigrette dressing. Tommy had Poutine which is french fries with cheese curds and bacon and gravy on top and it was good. Jenni had a meditaranian grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup which was very good. The last beer was otter creek Headcharge double ipa. This is a bigger beer with a perfumy aspect, higher alcohol, but not enough hop bitterness or aroma to be a true double ipa. This is an interesting place but barely qualifies as a brewpub although they do have about a dozen beers on tap with a good enough variety to suit most people.
