We stopped by the re-opened and much larger Prost! at around 5:30 on Friday. I wanted to see whether they still had any Spaten Oktoberfest left (they did). We got 500 ml of Spaten Oktoberfest and another of the Ayinger Oktoberfest. Both were served in glass steins (the Spaten was the correct glass; I didn't notice whether the Ayinger was). Both beers tasted fresh and were served at an appropriate temperature. The bartender was quick, friendly, and helpful.

We also ordered the pretzel, which is a comically large, 22-ounce monster served on a board the size of a pizza piel. The pretzel came with some tasty mustard and a large bowl of cheese sauce. My wife and I got through about half of it before giving up (we were headed to dinner soon after). Despite the silly proportions, the pretzel was actually quite good; I'd recommend it and would order it again.

Prices were a bit steep: $9 for the Spaten and $12 for the Ayinger. The pretzel was $11, though I have not had an equivalent dish, so I don't know where that is on the value scale.

We had a great time and will likely return.

Stumbled in here last week on my way home from Local Option.

Stark minimal interior, small chandeliers and more than a few flatscreen tv's illuminate the place. Brick floor with long wooden benches. A couple Bavarian blue & white Hofbrau banners serve as the only decor. Long space, with 2 tiny bar/counters in the back. It felt very much like the place was inspired solely by the movie Beerfest. "This is a Wisconsin bar", I overheard from a waitress. Indeed, the sports bar vibe dominates over any authentic bierhalle qualities.

Didn't try the food, but the short menu listed a "voluptuous pretzel" for $6, ham & cheese, and pork belly Reuben sandwiches. Actual German options were slim, but they did list Frikadellen, Goulash, and Spaetzle.

Beer wise, there were only 8-10 options, clearly German focused. Crap macros in the bottle were available too for some reason. I was pressured into buying a half-liter when I asked for the smallest glass for my Celebrator ($8-9). Not complaining, but most bars serve Celebrator in it's own 12 oz. stange glass. For the thirstier customer, 1L krugs and 2L boots are available. A boot of Optimator will set you back $34 for the beer, with a $65 deposit to use the hand-blown, imported glass boot. That is a potentially $100 beer my friend, don't put that glass down for any reason.

I'll be over on Irving Park for the authentic experience instead, this place was too cookie-cutter to ever return. Not recommended.
