Six months ago, I wouldn't have considered Danny's a beer bar really, but they have recently broadened their selection. This is a big improvement, although they always have stocked Chimay and Hitachino White.

Now they have 12 craft and import taps, a couple rotate with seasonals. Last time I had a Cane & Ebel, and a Wells Bombardier. There's also Maredsous, Delerium, Hitachino, Goose Island, and several notable others. A printed beer list is now available, with short descriptions and prices clearly listed. The bottle list was not huge, but it was well-rounded, focusing on quality imports and a few US micros as well.

The atmosphere has always been unique, and still remains so, despite the perennial trendy crowd. It literally feels like a classy house party, there are little alcoves and corner rooms leftover from it's previous life as a residence. Murals add a nice visual element. Lighting is mostly candles, so it's fairly dim...not a bad date place. There's a handy coat rack just inside to the right of the door. DJs play eclectic music nightly, there is a "church-style" bulletin board to the left of the door that displays upcoming events. First wednesdays are funk & soul night, and the tiny dancefloor gets pretty packed.

Keep your eye out for the beat up Schlitz sign out front, and have an ID ready. Not a bad option in tandem with Maproom, if one place gets too crowded.
