The Flying Saucer Memphis is located a block from Beale Street, in the heart of the "Downtown Core".

It's a relaxed location, with a large bar and rail area and plenty of table seating indoors. For entertainment there's two dart boards and several large TV's, invariably showing sports. On Tuesday's at 7, a group trivia game for gift certificate prizes is held.

The patio area has three large garage doors that open up to provide fresh air on warm sunny days, but which can be closed to keep the area warm in the winter months. Couch seating and a pool table round out the outdoor area. Seating by the windows is excellent for people watching, thanks to Memphis tourism.

The patio also contains a stage with live bands on weekend nights. Cover at these times is usually $3-5, or free if you join the UFO club. It is *very* crowded during the live acts, but well worth it if you want to hear good local Memphis bands.

The food is nothing special. Basic bar fare, with some wraps and assorted german-style foods. Food prices are reasonable.

Beer selection is large, with 75 beers on tap, 200+ in bottles. The selection is not as diverse as many other beer bars, but passable and always changing, with a few new beers every week or two. Beer pricing is moderate. You can find lower priced beers in the area, but only by a quarter or so. Ask for the "Fire Sale" to get the daily beer-on-sale.

Local beers: There really aren't any. Ghost River beer (from Memphis) can be found here, as well as Yazoo (from Nashville).

Smoking is allowed in the bar, which means that the location must be 21+ and up at all times. Children will not be permitted inside at any time, as required by state law.

Worth a visit. If you're a local, it's well worth joining the club and getting your plate on the wall.
