Barcade's claim to fame is its unique fusion of craft beer and retro video games. It occupies the lower level of a two story brick building, and parking is free along the streets. This area of Philly feels a little abandoned, with boarded up buildings, but there are good places to eat nearby. Enter Barcade along the side of the building, and the main room has a long 18 chair concrete bar with curved ends. They have 25 fantastic craft beers on tap, but unfortunately do not offer sampler flights. The food menu is sparse with appetizers, sandwiches, and tacos. The service seems a little aloof, but is quick with the food and drinks. There is a small patio on the side of the building, with a few umbrella shaded wooden tables. Their spacious arcade room has about three dozen classic video games (impressively still just 25 cents), and several high top tables. The atmosphere is spartan, almost gothic, with concrete floors and wooden beam ceiling. After sunset and a few drinks, the glow of the colorful games makes the place feel quite alive. As a bar, the beer selection is good but the food is average. Incorporating a nostalgic 80's arcade is brilliant, and is a worthwhile reason to visit this fun place.
