Forest & Main is a three-story pale yellow wooden house, named for the street corner at which it is located. Street parking is either free or metered, depending where you park. The house has a front porch patio with several small tables. This renovated building is over 150 years old, one of the oldest in Ambler. Their interior architecture is colonial public house, which has been masterfully restored. Thick creaking wood floors gives a historic feel, but the walls are painted with modern bold colors. On the main floor is the bar room and one dining room, and upstairs are two additional dining rooms. The bar room has a 5-stool thick wooden bar with one television and dartboard. They serve 8 house brews in appropriate glassware, or by 4-beer sampler flight. Half were a variety of Belgian style farmhouse saisons (Zaftig Dark, Solaire, Entre Nous, St. Mary Blonde), of which the St. Mary was my favorite. Half were British inspired ales, of which only the Queen Anne Stout was served cold, and it was quite drinkable. The remaining three were served at cellar temperature, and the Kinch IPA was my favorite overall. The Tiny Tim Bitter and Duke's Pale Ale were not quite flavorful or aromatic enough to benefit from the warmer temperature. The service was friendly, informative and efficient. The food menu is not extensive but offers a good variety of carefully prepared dishes with locally sourced ingredients. Forest & Main offers interesting food and beverage in a friendly, relaxing and cultured ambience.
