As of summer 2012, Iron Hill has 9 brewpubs in the DE-PA-NJ tri-state area. I am impressed this chain hasn't lost touch with its craft microbrewery roots, because the brewmasters each have autonomy to constantly invent bold new recipes. I almost always find a new brew when I go into any Iron Hill, and I have tasted over 300 different Iron Hill beers over the past several years! Their selection has excellent variety, and they usually have 12+ well-crafted beers on tap. I highly recommend visiting any Iron Hill brewpub to try a sampler! The North Wales, PA location is convenient, with plenty of shopping and a movie theater nearby. Like most Iron Hill locations, there are separate rooms for dining and the bar area. Their wooden bar is three sided with about 18 chairs. Parking was easy, and the service was good.

Set at the end of a strip mall the atmosphere is about what you expect for a large brewpub. There is a large bar area with flat screens in the center of the restaurant, and large rooms on each side separated from the main bar. Booths and tables lining the dining space with a cool mural of the “brewing process” on the wall. The dĂ©cor is a prairie style theme with muted earth tones on the floors and walls, nothing “wild” other than the stylized geese and cat tail details. It’s clean, comfortable, family friendly, and the staff is welcoming. The staff is knowledgeable about their brews but it seemed a little bit scripted. Our waitress was impressed that I knew what dunkelwiezen was, then when questioned about which hops was used in the very aromatic Rye PA she was unsure. The brewers on the other hand do know their stuff with a great variety of styles and seasonal choices. Everything was right on for their style, but nothing really extreme for us hop heads. You can’t go wrong with the samplers at $1 per 4oz glass
taste ‘em all. Food was really good. They have a brick oven with some good specialty toppings like imported olives, crimini mushrooms, rock shrimp, and more. We also had the sweet potato fries and hummus platter both of which were delicious too.

Iron Hill has a great selection of beers brewed on site by Larry Horwitz. There are a bunch of standards like Pig Iron Porter and Iron Bound Ale that are great but they also have a bunch of seasonals and single release beers that are exceptional. Everyone there is knowledgeable about the beers they have on tap. If you are looking for a Bud or Coors this is not the place to go. The food is great as well.
