This nanobrewery is a very small place, which feels very crowded; not enough space for groups. Earth is nestled in Mt. Airy and street parking can be a little challenging. The hearth-baked flatbreads (pizzas) are delicious. They usually have 6-8 beers on tap, but unfortunately, they don't serve a sampler flight. Just ask the bartender for a taste of a few and then order a pint. I find their beers consistently better than average, showcasing great ingredients, yet none stands out a truly exceptional beer. My favorites have been Belgian Style Stout, Amber Ale brewed with Coffee beans, and their India Pale Ale.

This is one of the best breweries I have ever been to and a place where I have spent much time (maybe too much). The beer selection is fantastic from the frequently changing and imaginative styles to the unique "vistors" from other breweries. They even have a beer that is made with hops from the neighborhood.

The service is excellent. Even on a busy night you are assured to get great service sometimes from the brewer/owner or his wife.

On top of the superb beer and food the pub is eco-friendly with lots of recycled bits and locally made stuff. Check out the cool mural on the side of the building on your way in.

If you are in the Philly area and love good beer this should definitely be on your list!

I have visited the Earth Bread + Brewery three times now and each time is better than the last. The bar is on Germantown Avenue in the Mount Airy section of Philadelphia. Street parking is relatively easy to find close by. The bar is two stories, with bars on each level. The walls are adorned with art work from local and national artists.

Last time I was there they had three different beers on tap, a berliner weisse, a farmhouse ale, and an IPA that were brewed in house, plus guest beers from Great Lakes, Philadelphia Brewing and Founders Breakfast Stout. I enjoyed the PBC Hops from the Hood fresh hop beer, along with one of the farmhouse ale. The former had a wonderful fresh hop aroma, without the overwhelmingly bitter aftertaste you get with a lot of over hopped beers. The farmhouse ale was a good represntation of the style but not over the top with the spiciness. Overall I love the fact that you can get both locally brewed beer here along with guest beers.

Foods are mostly flatbreads. Had a wonderful pesto flatbread accompanied by a bowl of vegan butternut squash soup. The selection of food is small, but the flatbreads, salads, and soups are all well worth the price and are of high quality.

The last thing to note is they have just added a wonderful communal table ... a ten foot table which seats about a dozen people made from a single piece of wood.. it is impressive to see, and will become a fixture in this cozy neighborhood bar and brewpub.

Still early in this brewpub's career, but the start is promising. My scores are probably lower than they should be; I'll explain. The food I've had has been very good, but it is a limited menu: essentially flatbreads (the Seed flatbread is uniquely excellent), soup, and salads. And atmosphere is more my fault: I'm always there on off-hours, when the place isn't jumping. But I try to get here whenever I can, and the house beers are always good, interesting, and sometimes challenging. Definitely worth a stop.
