Silver Spring Fire Department incorporated in 1918, and purchased the 6000 square foot National Guard Armory for its home station. The Fire Department later moved to a larger facility across the street, and the century-old former armory and firehouse is now home to Fire Station 1 Restaurant and Brewing Company. The renovated 2-bay firehouse has a high vaulted ceiling, red trim and dynamic, colorful lighting. There is outdoor patio seating, a 15-chair bar and plenty of dining tables. On the 2nd level, there is a 9-chair bar and a stage for live bands. Fire Station 1 does not brew, and thus offers typical bar beers, plus four contract-brewed beers from Maryland's White Marsh Brewery. You can purchase a sampler flight of those: Avenue Golden Ale, Daily Crisis IPA, Stoney's Stout on N2, and a seasonal such as coffee-infused Winter Solstice. My visit to Fire Station 1 was decent, but if you're hunting a wider variety of White Marsh beers, I recommend visiting Red Brick Station.
