Unless you know what you're looking for, the Quarry House Tavern is easy to overlook. At this address is Bombay Gaylord Fine Indian Cuisine, and you must descend 13 steps to the basement below that restaurant to enter the Quarry House. The decor is like a dark cellar. There is a 10-chair bar, and the back room is long enough to accommodate live bands. The place was very crowded, so the service was consequently slow. They have 9 well-chosen beers on tap, and a menu of 100+ bottle beers, with emphasis on Belgian imports. Entering this dive tavern is like finding a hidden easter egg.

Silver Spring has had burst of fresh newrestaurants, coffee shops, etc. But this place was the lone quality bar outpost for too long a time.

Descend from the plastic world above into a real bar below. I suggest a hamburger with your lunch.

Walk from Metro.
Silver Spring is the parking garage capital of the world.

I wouldn't go out of my for this place. But if you work in Silver Spring, or are there on business visiting NOAA or Discover Channel then get over here for lunch or after work.

This place has changed quite a bit in the last few years. From the outside it does look like a bit of dive, but head down the stairs anyway. The atmosphere is that of a local basement bar. Lots of beer paraphernalia. It is somewhat dark and has a wood decor. The beer selection has vastly improved in the past few years, although the prices have gone up also. The beer menu is now a few pages long with quite a few german and belgan beers.

Only two blocks from the Silver Spring metro and as everywhere else in Montgomery county, no smoking is allowed.
