Chevy Chase has a decent wine and liquor selection and a great beer selection. Everywhere you look there is another beer. However, I don't see much change in their beer selection - it seems relatively static. Also, I have not found the people who work there to be very helpful when it comes to beer - they are great for wine. However, it does have one of the best selections in the city so definitely worth a visit.

My first trip to a D.C. beer (liquor) store. Located on one of the main drags in northern "suburb" D.C., it's a tiny shop, but somehow big on the inside. The place is located on the west side of the street with a scattered amount of metered street parking, along with an entrance to the sidewalk. This place is in a bit of a market style area. There is packing around back if you turn on to McKinley Street then make an immediate left. It's a bit cramped back there. There is also a back entrance if you park back there.

This place builds its great selection by expanding vertically. To obtain some items you need a ladder. The beer is toward the back/packing lot side. There are a couple closed coolers and shelves on the left when walking in from the back (right from the front) and a good selection of singles to the right. Just about everything is in singles as a matter of fact. There are a lot of 12oz singles near the counter, and lots of 22oz/750ml bottles in a refrigerated shelf behind it. Don't forget to look up as there is beer along the walls on high shelves. Each beer is clearly marked with a price. I'm wondering how long it is before the new single bottle laws reach this place (anything under 70oz can't be sold individually, even if that's the original intent, like the 750ml and 22oz bottles). Probably the best selection I've seen in a store in a long time, possibly ever.

The prices seem to be decent, about average for anything in the area. The selection overall seems to be more expansive than northern VA, however there is still a lot of overlap. It will probably take me several visits to discover the complete selection that's unavailable in VA. The beers are also arranged by style, or at least placed near each other. In some cases, the beers are grouped together with other beers from the same brewery.

The service seemed to be okay, plenty of people around, although I never really asked for help. Judging by the selection, I'm sure someone in there knows their stuff regarding beer.

If you live in D.C., NoVA, or southwest Maryland, you have to make it to this place. Hell, if you access to a car, boat, or airplane, you should make it to this place. Probably one of the best selections on the East Coast. Highly recommended.

Parking is around back, accessed from the adjacent street. Chevy Chase gives me mixed emotions. They seem to have a ton of things to get excited about, only to find just one of the item or it’s out of stock.

The database on their website is great, but it doesn’t tell you there’s only one of an item in stock.

One of the major pluses is the singles. There you can get 1 to whatever (assuming it’s in stock) of everything they have.
