3 Stars Brewing is a two-story brick building located in a light industrial area. Their name refers to the Washington DC flag, of course. The brewery is open for tastings, tours, and growler fills on Saturdays. Parking is hard to find along the crowded street. There was a independent food truck parked outside on the day of my visit. The entrance splits to the right for the tasting room, and to the left for brewhouse tours. The tasting room is painted grey and has a small L-shaped wooden bar. They offered three beers on tap which were fresh, relatively high in alcohol, and very well crafted. Their two flagships brews are delicious Southern Belle Brown Ale with pecans (8.6% abv), and remarkable Pandemic Porter (9.6%). I also tried their Peppercorn Saison (6.5%), which was spicy and flavorful. In addition to selling 3 Star paraphernalia, the tasting room is also a home brew store where you can buy malt, hops, and home brewing equipment. The service is friendly and attentive, aiming to please all of their customers. A window from the tasting room looks into the brewhouse where there are stainless steel brewing vessels and raw material storage. The brewhouse is spacious and has plenty of room for growth, which I believe will be needed. Despite so few brews in their current portfolio, I give a relatively high score to their excellent offering. I can't wait to see what bold new recipes will come next.
