linkHopjacks is located on the corner of Dauphin Street & Joachim Street. It sits next to the historic Saenger Theater that opened in 1927. http://www.mobilesaenger.com/history.php
The interior of Hopjacks has approximately 12 stools at the bar and a good number of tables scattered throughout. Behind the bar is decorated with fragments of broken mirror, not something I've seen before.
This particular night our bartender was extremeley friendly and she knew her beers...and there were a lot of beers!
They boast 50 taps and roughly 100 bottle selections. On tap on this visit: Abita, Avery, Ayinger, Bell's, Chimay, Gordon Biersch, Hoegarden, Lazy Magnolia, Left Hand, Lindeman's, Magic Hat, Moylan's, Rogue, Sam Adams, St.Bernardus, Sweetwater, Terrapin, TommyKnocker, Yuengling and 5 taps that get rotated in and out as required.
Bottle selections include Alhambra, Bavik, Bell's, Boddington, Boddington, Czechvar, Delerium, Erie Brewing, Flying Dog, Gulden Draak, Great Divide...and on and on...
A very nice selection of beers on tap and in bottles. They also pour some beer 'blends'. For example Southern Pecan with Lindeman's is called 'nuts & berries'.
On this visit we tried the "Belgian Fries" which are fried in duck fat rendered on the premises. They were pretty tasty and came with a garlic dipping sauce that was really good.
The food menu runs from appetizers like the Brie, Bacon & Artichoke dip, Pita fold sandwiches, salads, pizza (which you can see being made and cooked to the right of the bar) and a selection of desserts.
This place currently has a legitimate claim to the title of 'Best Beer Selection" in or around Mobile Alabama, hands down.
Beer fans, this is the place to go in Mobile. This is a definite destination for any well-planned beer adventure in southern Alabama.
Save me a stool, I will be back!
