Kathy’s is located in the center of the Jubilee Pointe strip mall just off US Hwy 98. I would say that Kathy’s is likely the ‘anchor’ business for Jubilee Pointe. They have been in their current location for just over a year. Previously they were located across and just down the street.

Upon entering the first thing I noticed was the clean, well-lit & well organized layout of the store. Immediately to the right of the entrance were stacks of beer variety packs from, among others, Great Divide, Ale Works, Magic Hat, Chimay and Sprecher. Sprecher, are you kidding me? This is the only place I have seen Wisconsin’s own Sprecher in southern Alabama.

The surprises just kept on coming. Toward the rear of the store are stacks, shelves and coolers bursting with a very nice selection of beers in many, many styles. They have an excellent selection of regional beers as you would expect. There were bottles of Sweet Water, Terrapin, and Lazy Magnolia to name a few.

Some of the craft/micro brewers I did not expect to see here included Kind, Urthel, Avery, Mad Anthony, Sarnac, Bison, Bell’s, Erie Brewing & many more. Flying Dog, Dogfishhead, Thomas Creek & the list goes on and on.

Then there was the import section. I dare say they have the best selection of imports I have seen in southern Alabama. Beers from Germany were well represented with the likes of Schnieder, Weinhenstephaner, Erdinger and many more.

Their variety of Belgian & Belgian-style beers was also impressive for southeastern Alabama. Unibroue, Chimay, St. Bernardus are three that stood out. There were more Lambics, Kreiks, Strong Darks, Wits and about every other style that the Belgians have.

The lady that spoke to was very friendly and helpful. She sounded like she was in the process of learning more about the beers she was selling. Overall, I would say this is a very good place to stop when you are in the area…
