This Mellow Mushroom is something you can't help but notice while driving down University or Old Shell.
There is a giant multicolored mushroom sculpture sprouting from the center of the outdoor seating area. These mushrooms are large enough to use as umbrellas.
There is off street parking but finding an open spot can sometimes be difficult.
Walking in the first thing I noticed was the pleasant scent of a pizzeria. Yeast, dough and Italian seasonings. Quite nice.
To the right of the entrance is the dining area. Families, couples and smalls group of people enjoying the food.
To the left of the entrance are more tables and a small bar with seven stools. On my first visit I sat on one of the stools.
The decor gives off something of a hippie vibe, posters and murals of the late Jerry Garcia can be found throughout. Behind the bar are stickers brom breweries and beer organizations (Bell's, Free the Hops, etc.).
I found the staff to be very friendly and excited that the beer laws in Alabama will soon be changing. The folks sitting at the bar were, from what I could tell, locals. They too were friendly and easy to talk to.
The draught beer selections included Rogue, Abita, Atlanta Brewing, Sweetwater, Lazy Magnolia, Stella, Yuengling, Hoegaarden and Mellow Mushroom's own Bogart Ale (brewed by Atlanta Brewing).
Some of the bottles noted there were from Fordham, Warstiener, Harpoon, Pilstner Urquell, Terrapin and the ever present PBR.
The food menu consists of salads, pizza (both red & white), calzones, sandwiches and hoagies.
On this visit I tried a pizza and was glad that I did.

This is a place that I will frequent as often as parking and my schedule will allow.
