linkTAP was one of my destinations during my recent trip to Atlanta. It is located on the first two floors of a midrise in Midtown. They have a nice outdoor space in front and offer free valet parking. Note that the parking service donates all tips to local charities, which I thought was pretty cool.
The bar is dark, yet colorful. They really like the low lighting. The bar is in the center of the first floor and is surrounded by small tables and a few booths. I couldn’t make my mind up about the bar stools, they are cushioned like an easy chair, but have only one arm with the other being the egress in/out of the seat.
There is also some limited seating on the 2nd floor by the stir case. Note the glass door cooler as you come down the stairs, lots of good beer on display. The 2nd floor also contains the bathrooms (minor annoyance) and the open kitchen.
Our bartender was topnotch and was great with both food and beer selections. I would say they have about 15 taps with lots of local and Belgian choices. Note they also have one beer on cask (while I was there it was a porter for $8). The bottle selection also has many good choices. They embrace the seasonals which is nice to see. My boss was with me and after a few beers switched to wine. He appreciated their wine list.
The food was very good and goes beyond standard pub grub fare. Try the delightful Yucatan BBQ pork taco (other types also available). I also had some good appetizers (go for the buffalo calamari but skip the fries) and some tasty pasta. Note that we leisurely paced our meal with appetizers and dinner spread over a couple of hours. They had no problem with this and keep the food coming at regular intervals. I can really recommend this “slow” approach to dining at a spot like TAP.
They had a very nice crowd that seemed to feature a good mix of locals, office workers and travelers like myself.
Prices tend to being a bit spendy. My bill was about $280 for four, but that included a good amount of beer, food & wine. I think you could eat a drink here for about $40 for a meal & beer.
This is my new favorite place in Atlanta. It works for beer folks and food folks.
