Planted right downtown, this should be a welcome site to any business traveler. There is public transportation, both Civic Center and Peachtree Center are only a couple blocks away from the brewpub.

The interior is very well done. Wood lined walls and a lot of space, along with an upstairs area that has billiards. Both upstairs and downstairs brewing equipment is in plain site and adds to the ambiance. There is also an outdoor patio that's probably very welcoming on warm nights.

There's a decent variety of beers on the menu, and of course this varies depending on when you visit. Both beers I had were great. Each of them have some interesting names.

The food menu has a large variety, I'm sure anyone can find something they like. I had the pulled pork which was very good.

Edit:
I came back again six months later as this place was at the top of my mind for places to go in the area. This time we sat in the back patio. Even though it was a hot, humid day it was very comfortable as it's completely in the shade. Also there is a water fountain in the back. If it's not noisy from a lot of people then it's a very calming environment. Also, their entire beer menu changed over. A lot of brewpubs have the same four or five beers plus a couple seasonal but it looks like this place is always trying something new.

Nice place, right near the Peachtree Underground. Good fish & chips for dinner. Started with the Helles, followed by the Black, and finally the Hopsplosion. Bar-lady let me have a sample of the Abbey, too. Love the Mash-tun & Kettle next to the entrance and the matching fermenters & serving tanks upstairs. Bathrooms are up there, too, so good reasons to see them and the other bar. Hope I can visit again next time I'm in Atlanta.

Visited three times between 20-24 July (I was staying in a near-by hotel); once for dinner, once for drinks, once for lunch.

Several interesting beers on tap, including a nice wit (excellent on a hot July day) and a superb dunkel lager (very clean with great roast flavors). The bottles list was also quite extensive; I tried a Bell's Porter off it.

The food was also excellent, both for lunch and dinner. It's mostly in the southern/cajun style. Service is was good as well.

All-in-all, a good place in downtown Atlanta to kick back and enjoy yourself with some good brews and food.

They have a very nice brewing system at Max Lager's. The location is excellent, right downtown. The building was redone very well. My visit was back in March on my way from CT to TX. Thank goodness for the Beer Mapping Project they help me plan my route from home to brew pub to brew pub to my destination!

The food at Max Lager's was excellent. I had the bison burger and my wife had a salmon salad. They had just tapped a chocolate stout that truely delicious.

I travel to Atlanta on a fairly regular basis and have found Max’s a good place for a pint and not a bad place to entertain small groups of beer loving clients.

Macs’s is located in a very nice 2-story brick building. There is a bar area upfront with lots of tables. On the main floor there is an area near the front door that contains some of the brewing equipment. Upstairs there is another dining area, a party space, pool tables and more aging tanks. They have a patio in back, but strangely, I have never drank in it.

The service is usually friendly. The service could have been a bit quicker, but it is the south and I sometimes think that if that laid back attitude spread to the rest of the country, we would all be a little less stressed out.

They offer 5 or 6 house beers on tap and one. I would like to see a few more choices, but at least the beers were all more than passable.

The food is fine; we ended up having two orders of the tasty wings and other appetizers (Try the Georgia Peanut Sticks). They have some nice smokehouse options.

The atmosphere was fun if a little laid back. It is a great place for conversation. I noticed three TVs, so we could keep up with the game. The long tables in the front bar area are great for groups. Not ranting, but I liked the fact that there was very few smokers and the bar seemed to have very good ventilation. Much easier to enjoy your beer when you can actually smell it!

All in all this is a nice place for a beer and a bite to eat. It is a very convenient location to the major downtown hotels. It is well worth a stop.
