Great brewery space, including an upper an lower area. You can go to the upstairs area and look down over the tank room. Very industrial feeling. Went early in the afternoon so I could hit right after the place opened, to hopefully avoid lines. This particular day was able to step right up to the bar and talk directly with the bartender. Ashville seems to have some interesting beer rules (only allowed to have one beer in front of us at a time and refused to serve a sampler due to time of day even though the place was relatively empty). They had their specialty stout Dweller available in bottle, tried that but preferred the regular Forester stout. Definitely favorite at this brewery was the IPA. Also tried the porter and ESB, both were very good. Really wanted to try to the snozzberry, but they didn't have it that day. Overall, definitely a solid brewery worth the visit. They have a decent sized cooler with a pretty good variety that can be brought home or drank there if not on tap (Dweller was not on tap when I visited).

Hit Greenman first brewery on our ultimately 10 brewery tour of Asheville. Friday afternoon -crowded with a diverse younger group. No roving waitress in a smallish partition right off the brewery-nice. Had to go to back door of bar and flag the pleasant bartenderess and asked for a sampler-happily delivered. Beers were crisp and well made but nothing remarkable. Greatest part was the delivery of basket of pretzels with a delicious stone ground mustard unasked for-very cool. Followed with pint of IPA- good more of an english east coast style- miss the NW hop blast I got in Portland, but well made. Gear locker was great but waited until sunday for hopefully smaller crowd. Returned and not disappointed-nice crowd - wife bought cool fleece lined zipper hoodie , hat and shirt for daughter. Sizes were a bit limited and hoodie was pricey (damn really wanted one myself). But met an older couple from asheville who beemed with pride at the praises us minnesotans had for asheville. I felt it was a mini-portland and very progressive for a southern town I think. Soccer on the tube and great selection of guest local beers. Must see place on a beer hunt. Oh yeah-dogs. Seems asheville has lax rules on dog patronage if food not served-a trend we saw in asheville-cool but odd. Seemed like most of the dogs were dingo type dogs? Different for this yankee but again very cool!

Ahh, Dirty Jacks!

This is a must stop while in Asheville and just keeps on expanding. The drafts now number 6 and one is a handpull. The beers are always good and sometimes great. The only real issue with Dirty Jacks is the lack of food other than perhaps pretzels or peanuts.

The seating just keeps expanding. At one time it was just at the bar, then in front of the brewery, and now it includes and enclosed exterior area. The place is opened daily now so stop in while in Asheville.
