Simply one of the best beer bars in American. Upstairs has a constantly rotating selection of rare american craft beer. Thursday is cask night, which have included Rogue Chocolate Stout and Bells Two Hearted, among others. Downstairs is a Belgium beer bar. You can always find Chimay and Delirium on tap along with, similarly to upstairs, a constant rotation of rare Belgium beers. Great service and atmosphere. If you in Asheville for a beer vacation, you cannot miss the Monk. Good food too...

The Thirsty Monk always seemed a bit difficult to find off Coxe Ave since the door isn't clearly marked. Anyway, it turns out to be a piece of cake. Now they have an upstairs bar with American beers and downstairs is the Belgian bar. The Belgian bar is dark and mysterious while the upstairs bar is light and open. Service upstairs was quick and attentive (albeit a bit opinionated), downstairs was a little slow to recognize a new patron, but the service overall was good.

Lots of beers to try in both places, no smoke in sight and the prices seemed reasonable. Give TM a try, I know I'll be back.
