Downtown Brewing is on the second floor in one corner of the central square in downtown Paso Robles. The atmosphere is American bar/sports bar. TVs dominate (with sound on). On one side the main room are windows and a semi-outdoor veranda overlooking the square. On the other side are a fairly short wooden bar and the kitchen. Assorted stainless steel and wooden-topped tables and a couple curved padded booths provide seating. Floors are concrete.

The five house-brewed beers are pedestrian but good. Bud Light, Dos Equis, Newcastle, and five vaguely craft beers fill out the beer selection.

Food is sandwiches and burgers as well as more extensive entrees and specials. There’s also an extensive choice of appetizers (including a fresh fruit plate, unusual for a pub).

Located on the second floor, the enclosed wrap around veranda provides nice views out to the town square. The main dining area has additional table seating and a short bar area. There were about 8 brews listed when I visited and I enjoyed the porter while watching activities in the park and along the sidewalks below. All the house brews come from their San Luis Obispo brewpub and guest beers from Firestone Walker and other regional breweries. The menu includes burgers, sandwiches and wraps as well as a couple upscale grill items. We found parking on the square which can be difficult at times but the stroll past neighboring stores and businesses is enjoyable.
