Morro Bay, California. Small, quaint, walkable...a perfect little village to get away from the California crowds...and many do, thereby creating yet another crowd in this coastal California town.

However, wife Persimmon & I visited in January when the place was practically empty. Sure, there were some others who knew the best time to appear happened to be when everyone else didn't...but they were few.

First order of business, where's the nearest brewpub, brewery?
Didn't have far to look.

Right down on the bay-front, the Libertine Pub advertises 48 beers on draft, and they don't disappoint.
2 bars connected by a hallway offer different varieties...so if you don't find one to your liking, walk a few yards.

The pub also offers one of the best views we've ever witnessed..a place to quaff a brew or two and watch the otters play, the gulls swoop, the pelicans fish, the boaters -- well, boat.

The prices here for food are expensive, even in the "off-season" (fish & chips at $14.00) but tasty.

The most unfortunate thing for us however, was their beer product.

All sours, or on their way to becoming one.

I can understand any brewery trying to carve out a niche for themselves...but to limit a product to a certain genre seems to be detrimental to contacting with a larger audience. The Bruery in Placentia, California for example specializes in Belgian beers...but still branch out to sours, IPA's, Stouts, etc.

It did limit our choices. Still, Libertine is the only game in town...and it's just fine. We were happy to imbibe "guest" beers...went back a few times to do so, to enjoy the incredible view of that bay and Morro Rock and say "hello" to our new friends, the otters...gulls...and pelicans.
