The tasting room at Central Coast Brewing is right inside the brewery. Assorted tall tables with tall director’s chairs and a dark wooden bar with padded metal stools sit right amongst the fermenters. As befits a working brewery, the ceilings are high and the floors concrete. Shelves on the upper section of two walls by the entrance are decorated by beer coasters and hold empty beer bottles.

There is additional seating just outside a sliding glass door on a pleasant concrete paver patio overlooking the parking lot. A long and tall stainless steel counter shaded by market umbrellas runs along one side of the space and there are also several tall tables, both provided with the same tall director’s chairs.

There were 11 house-brewed beers on tap on our visit, including one that’s brewed for Union Ale in Santa Barbara (the Pinehopple IPA). The range was quite surprising: a Blonde, a Red, a “Brew-nette”, a Stout (low-alcohol Irish style), a Pale Ale, English Guillotine IPA, a Chai Ale, a Dopplebock, Catch 23 Black IPA, and Vespertine Dubbel. We tasted the Dubbel, the Pale Ale, the English Guillotine, the Pinehopple, and the Stout and found them all characteristic of their styles and well made.

There is no food available.

If you're looking for a place to grab a pub-style meal with a quick beer to wash it down then keep on lookin' cause this ain't the place. If sitting, or maybe standing, amongst the brewing hardware and sampling a selection of fresh offerings brewed up by the local neighborhood guys is more up your alley then this is your kinda place. The tasting room is fairly small, even considering the outdoor seating area. There are usually a half-dozen or so fresh beers on tap poured up by a knowledgeable and friendly staff, most often one of the brewers themselves. Pints run about $5 or so, but go for $3 during Happy Hour (3-6 weekdays). Generous (5 oz. ?) samples are $1 to $3, depending on the selection. The 5 for $5 Happy Hour flight is an economical way to get aquainted with the array. In addition to reasonably-priced growler fills, a handful of the standard offerings are available in 22 oz. bottles to go for $4-$5. Beyond chips, peanuts, or popcorn there is no food to speak of, but the gang is more than accepting of any eats you might choose to carry in from any of the tasty restaurants down the street. On our most recent visit we sampled the blonde, amber, pale, hefeweizen, stout, chocolate stout, and vanilla stout. We were disappointed by two things: they were out of porter and the black IPA wasn't quite ready yet.

Located in a relatively small building, this popular local brewery with on-site tasting/sales of a variety of styles. When I visited, seven taps were operating and I sampled both the Red Brick Ale and the Stenner Creek Stout. There is a walk up bar and a small sitting area as well as some additional seating out front. Good size tastes are available for a buck or two and growlers, bottles and kegs are available of many styles. There is a small parking lot out front but we found space on the street nearby.
