SLO Brew’s upstairs area is a very nice open space with a high pitched corrugated metal ceiling, large skylights, and exposed joists. Walls are brick and the floors are light worn oak in the main seating area and concrete elsewhere. A light wooden bar with matching tall chairs runs along one side. Next to it is the brewery. The mash tun, brew kettle, and fermenters are visible behind windows. The rest of the room is filled with tall tables with stools and normal height tables with wooden chairs. There are several large TVs around the room with the sound turned off, all tuned to various sports. Large industrial-style hanging lamps with brushed metal shades provide ample lighting throughout the space.

A billiard room with another skylight is behind a partition that houses a double-sided fireplace. There is also another bar area on the ground floor, but it was closed for a special event on our visit.

Food choices look fairly standard (entrees, burgers, pizza) but we didn’t try anything.

There were nine house-brewed taps plus two beers from Firestone Walker on our visit: Honey Blonde, Pale Ale, Reggae Red, IPA (on CO2 and nitro), Porter, Blueberry and three seasonals (Cali-Wheat, Pilsner, Oaktoberfest).

A popular entertainment venue downstairs, the brewpub is on the second floor, up a long flight of stairs. The stairs split the upper floor with a fair size bar and table seating on one end and a lounge with leather couches, tables and TVs on the other. The brewing and tanks rooms are along the long wall with the bar. When we visited and settled in to watch some round ball, there were nine house brews on tap. I managed to work my way through several of which the Reggae Red and Winter Brown were my favorites. The menu is pretty typical pub grub with a good selection of burgers and sandwiches as well as spaghetti and ribs. There is metered parking on the street plus some space in off street lots and a large parking garage is a few block away.

Formerly known as SLO Brewing, now named Downtown Brewing Co, is located in the heart of San Luis Obispo's downtown area. The only parking we found was 2 hour street metered but we got a spot right in front of DBC. There are two floors, the first is the main bar w/ tables and room for live bands (looks like bands perform there regularly). Upstairs is the main restaurant area (it's HUGE) with a smaller bar, plenty of tables and couches. We happened to arrive during happy hour and got 1/2 pricing on drinks and food. We tried just about all of their taps by ordering their sampler sizes, blueberry and honey ale were standouts. In total, we had about ten sampler brews, two pints, and three large-portioned appetizers for the very reasonable price of around $35. The service was friendly (took some waiting at first), bathrooms reasonably clean (only air dryer), food was great, drinks were excellent. Highly recommended and we plan on future visits.
