Came to the eastern (lower-numbered) Kingston Pike location because that's what this web site identified as the location. They do have tanks right in the eating area, so I think they do brew some of their own beers on premises, although it's hard to tell which ones.
8 on tap when I came: IPA, Pale, Red, Stout, Wheat, Helles Bock, Light & a seasonal "Winter Warmer". The menu lists differently sized samplers, ending at $6 for 6 samples, served in champagne glasses that come out to about 6oz of beer (an estimate).
The IPA and red had a funky smell to them. The IPA didn't taste very good while the red's funky smell permeated its taste. The Winter Warmer tasted like a lot of the lower-end "winter" seasonals, but lacked the bite and punch (a la Mike Tyson) that others feature. The pale (Appalachian Pale) was also good but not great.
I actually really liked the light. It was just well done, but, maybe out of pride, I just could not order it for a full pint. I ended up with the stout, which I thought was very good.
The stout was close to a dry irish, but with a little more body and kick to it. In the pint glass, it went down pretty smoothly.
Second pint I ended up with was the Appalachian Pale. I needed something a little lighter and that worked and, when served cold, was pretty good.
The Wednesday I went, they had specials on drafts: the stout was $2.50 and the pale was $2.25. Not bad at all.
I didn't see any non-house beers on tap either, which I take as a good sign.
The food was pretty good. I had a barbecue chicken sandwich, and I can't say that it was the best I've ever had, but it was pretty good.

Calhoun's receives their beer from Smoky Mountain Brewery. They have several beers on tap--a pale ale, a pilsner, a brown ale, a porter, an american lager, a light american lager, and a red. There are no growlers or bottles. I would recommend the pale ale of the porter, maybe the brown ale (depends on the batch).

The atmosphere is okay. It's a bbq restaurant with 3 locations in Knoxville. I would recommend the location on the river (Neyland DR).
