I came across Downtown Grill and Brewery as I wandered through Knoxville. I really liked the exterior of the brewpub, it was like taking a step into the past.

The centerpiece of the interior is the large boxed bar in the middle of the room. Tables circled the lower level, and a balcony surrounded the bar from above. Very cool.

Downtown featured about seven beers on tap. They were the brewpub essentials; a good range of beer, but nothing too wild. I liked the stout very well.

The food menu featured pub classics. Sandwiches, salads, and pizza were served along with pasta, burritos and fajitas. I ordered chicken tenders, and I got a lot of tasty food for a very reasonable price.

Service was mixed. The place was hammered, so I can't be too critical. One bartender was super, and the other was super with the couple next to me.

Really cool place, and I got a super good deal.

We went here as a result of this website and continued good experiences of recommended locations, thanks. This place was great. Good beers brewed on site. Neat little part of town. Pleasant soul food. Nice friendly staff. My only gripe would be the crowd, there was a 30 min wait when we arrived but the bar is spacious and allows for a beverage or two while you wait. Beers were $3, which to me is amazing. Late night menu 'till 1am. We did get charged a $3 cover when we went back due to a live bluegrass band, but this led to $2 beer specials, so we broke even. Highly recommended.

Downtown Grill and Brewery is perhaps the nicest bar in Knoxville. It sits downtown and has two stories. The clientelle range from students to senior citizens. There's usually a steady flow of customers and live music on the weekends.
The beer selection is decent. They brew a golden ale (which tastes like a golden ale), a brown ale, a stout, a porter, and others I have not tried. I recommend the stout (or maybe its the porter, I had them in tandem). The price per pint is more than reasonable at $3. Overall, its a good experience.

Another great local hangout! Massive place with two floors. Excellent food. Particularly loved the Santa Fe burger. The pretzels with beer cheese made the German in me very very happy indeed. But the beer! Everything that I sampled was good. I really loved the White Mule Ale & Woodruff IPA, but the Alt was in a word astounding! Another example of great staff as well. I am looking forward to going back to Knoxville soon, just so I can go there.
