landmark ahoy...

Going to the landmark is sort of a guilty pleasure, because gas is so damn expensive there in lies the guilty, drinking the fine beer, the pleasure....

went to the landmark 1850 the other day and it was a 50 beer selection tho... the rogues were the only thing I hadn't had.... not the most stellar night for landmark, but not a letdown by any means... rogue's imperial porter (yeah I hadn't heard of it either and it was roasty and delishous) came in a rogue xs goblet... awesome. (sorry rembering the beer) The taplist ran a bunch of local miller products, leines, dogfish, victory, st bernie 12, rogue (duh) Floyds and a handful of others with prolly about 15 of them being european beer... nothing too exciting today but it's still pretty sweet as far as a place to drink, and the taplist rotates like a sit and spin...

The bar is old and wood and solid and as you sit there, you notice stuff... sitting at the bar and looking to your left, at the end of the bar is a wooden indian, and a iron stove the bar itself is fascinating to look at (specially the cash register which looks about 100 years old and they use it on the regular) but moving right you see the taphandles on the double decker tap system... if you look below the second set of tap handles you'll see a very cool pile of currently unused taphandles which I always find kinda awesome... At this point you should take a look up... the ceiling is decorated with patterns and it shows the age of this bar you find yourself in... there's a common area with a bench set seating around a 4 square meeting area and some other seating off to the left past the bar... The outdoor seating area, the stone tables (and plastic ones are spread out to enjoy the view of the "airport" but it's still nice to watch the planes roll in and kick back in the cool weather to have a beer and relax.... if you go left outside in the garten area there's a secondary bar they open in summer for stuff... go right and it's just seating... but just to reitterate, take in this old ass place one piece at a time... it's cool as hell to visit just for that... and then there's beer.

Service is good here. There's usually 3 bartenders and they cover their sections pretty seriously... worth chatting up the bartenders for the local faire and such...

didn't eat here.

I stopped here last night on the return leg of my monthly cross border pilgrimage to Murray's Wine in Whitefish Bay. My time was limited as I work Saturday mornings and didn't get there until about 9:00PM with an hour+ left to drive. Boy am I glad I did!

I snagged the first spot in the lot, right in front of the door and passed by the bouncer into beer heaven. It was Friday night, and the place was hopping.

Easily 30+ craft beers on tap. After much thought, I opted for an Abt 12 (which I have never had on tap). My server, who later introduced himself as Jeff, knew the beer well and let me know they also had the 8 and 10 available. The beer arrived in the appropriate glassware, and was fantastic.

I then ordered the 9" Basil Pesto Pizza. It arrived very quickly and hot, and was very good as well. I paired this with a 90 Minute IPA that again, I have never had on tap. AWESOME.

The best part? These two fine beers, the pizza, and a $4.00 tip totaled $20.00!

Jeff also provided me with a taster of Shakespeare Stout, and promised to let me know what was up and coming among "special" kegs in the future. He asked for, and I left, my business card, e-mail address and BA user name.

All in all a great stop. I will make an effort to hit this place every time I'm in the area.

ps: Stonecrusher, where were you? [and where are you?]
