So I made it to the new location finally, and chatted with Shawn the beer guy. They were hosting a beer tasting, but he took time out to explain the beer selection and field questions. Awesome service. Every saturday afternoon they hold a beer tasting apparently. Singles selection was top notch, though a bit smaller than Woodmans in Oak Creek. They had a bar in the back with 2 taps, currently pouring Sprecher EPA, not available outside the brewery. The next brewery event is with O'So, and they are bringing 2 exclusive kegs to put on for the event. There was a cozy lounge area toward the back of the store, it felt like hanging out at a friend's house almost, instead of your typical bar. Unique place, definitely check it out if traveling in the area...

Spacious, clean, well laid out store. Beer shelves had a ton of singles, the main draw of the place. There were a couple empty spots, with signs saying "something good coming soon, watch this space" suggesting an expansion of their selection in the near future. My purchases focused mainly on WI stuff, though there were many import singles available as well. A few that I picked up: Ale Asylum, LL, South Shore, Central Waters, Tyranena, New Glarus, Esser's, Lakefront, etc. The 4.5 selection score is based on the fact that just about everything is available in singles. They may not have the quantity of Discount, but the selection is great.
Service was helpful, the first 6-pack I loaded up was held at the counter while I browsed further. There was a small bar off to the side, perfect for hosting beer tastings. There was sunlight coming in the large front windows, but they were frosted halfway up. Haven't had any skunked brew yet. Everything has been tasty thus far.
A convenient stop off 94 if you're not planning to spend time in Milwaukee.

decided to head up to milwaukee and hit three cellars.... they were having a porter tasting... so I thought why not.... only 6 porters to be tasted but they were of quality.... it seems tastings are a weekly thing at this location and they have an L shaped bar, directly as you walk in, to your slight right.... they do wine as well, so it's a nice parallel...
it's right off the highway at exit 320, hang a left and then a right at the next light and it's on.... oh wait this is beermapping.
I had heard of this place a WHILE back on ratebeer and decided to not wait for the next round of the gabf thing that's been going on round here and roll to the store... One thing to say it has a couple of labels not found at discount.... which is to say... huh... central waters, which seemed to dry up around the milwaukee area is still prominent as is furthermore. Both are beers I rarely see at discount so this place for that reason, if you like the two breweries, is a reason to stop.... they aren't end all be all tho... they have complete lines of breweries such as new glarus (sans the unplugged) central waters (sans the bourbon barrel items) sprecher... This place isn't the place for specialties, but it did have a few beers that were specialties which I thought long gone.... so huh again....
the real appeal for selection is the singles section here... They advert 400 different micros here and I think that's what's on the back wall. It gives murray's a run for it's money on the single selection, tho murray's wins over for overall care of the beer and more unplugged/brewers gone wild/reserve type stuff. But if you don't mind a heapin helpin of warm shelf beer, and you like approx a 9ish mixed sixer.... this is your spot... 1.50 was the average per, pending.
the atmosphere is one of those renovated, strip mall wine store liquor stores, complete with the neon above the coolers and handy wooden directional signs to indicate where things were.... not a hole, but a fabricated, clean place of business, that happens to sell a good handful of craft beer....
Service was good, since I spent a good amount of time stalking the back wall where the singles were kept... all in all knowing I was visiting discount, all I walked out with was a mixed sixer of furthermore/new glarus/central waters, and a sixer of furthermore fatty...
I asked the guy who rung me up about the shop and where the craft beer angle had come in.... it seems the guy whom was doing the tasting was also the son in law... and he's the craft beer nut...
if you're coming from the south.... and you haven't spent all your money at either discount or the kenosha woodmans on the way up... this is a good place to stop in and single beer up.... you can do that at murray's too if you're headed up that way but it cuts a lot of driving time down from going up to whitefish bay....
welcome to an alternative.
