So states Thunder Canyon's website and hence the name.

Wife Persimmon & I pulled in on a warm (82 degrees) Saturday afternoon to find the place almost empty...at lunchtime. This did not bode well because the place is huge, expansive with a "lounge" at the entrance and several big screens showing all manners of sports; baseball, football, Olympics, etc.

Asking the front desk gal; "I suspect you're very busy on Friday and Saturdays, yes? What with the sofa and chairs there?"

"No," she said, "not really. Most people don't use the recreation area."

"Oh. So what is your busiest time."

"Probably Saturdays."

Uh....Ok....I let it go. Better that way.

14 brewery beers on tap, from an Orange U Glad, a Strawberry wheat, 3 IPA's (including a flagship brew), a very good & slightly sweet milk Stout on nitro and an 8% American Strong Ale that left much to be desired. They also featured several beers from New Belgium as well as a half dozen other breweries, most non-local.

The menu was extensive and varied; spicy tater tots (a potful!), hummus plate along with the usual brewpub fare of burgers, wings, etc. The hummus plate needed some kick which never came even after a dousing of both red and green Gunslinger sauces. Apparently they forgot to load up.

The service was a bit slow as well but the servers all friendly. Parking is on the street, metered (although not on weekends) and hard to find a spot even early this Saturday morning.

If they thunder rolls through while you happen to be in downtown Tucson, stop by.

But don't expect lightning here.
