linkBJ's is really good food. Specialized and Tested PUB GRUB. we all know that. A Big Box Brewpub who brews their beer centrally and trucks it in to the several outlets in their area.
Several of the Beers are quite good, but for the most part they are average ales brewed in bulk for the Everyman audience that is their stock and trade. The only beers I ever remember as being distinct are the TATONKA STOUT, and their Grand Cru.
Tatonka, from the American Indian name for BUFFALO, is a horney and unholy compromise brew between a sweet stout, an extra stout and a russian stout with characters of all three. Good but a challenge for those who have a copy of the BJCP in hand trying to figure out JUST WHAT STYLE they were aiming at.
The Grand Cru is my favorite of their in house selection. Deep and full bodied with a nice mouth feel and a distinct high alcohol effect. It's very tasty. It's the only BJ's beer that has an overall appearance of a CRAFT BEER.
The NUTTY BREWNETTE is also worth a try. An almost sucessful attempt at a Nut Brown Ale that got hijacked by a DIRTY BLONDE and an Amber Ale .... BJ's has so many beers that they all tend to merge together into a single Brewmasters Nightmare.
The rest of their offering tends to be forgettable, though acceptable.
THE FOOD IS GREAT, THE PIZZAS are TASTY. Settle down to a good meal and forget the search for the perfect ale for a while.. ENJOY.
