The McMenamin's Sandtrap Bar and Grill is in a grand and historic four story wood shingled building on the edge of a golf course.

The front door opens onto a hallway that is two stories high with a art deco wooden staircase on one side. At the end of the hallway is a bar area with a large wooden square shaped bar. There is restaurant seating on both the left and right sides in several adjoining rooms.

Large dark wood framed windows with floral curtains run the full length of this space and give views of the golf course and the surrounding hills. Seating is provided by pine booths with padded seats, and oak tables with captains chairs. The rooms are separated by some lovely etched and stained glass windows. The floors are carpeted, the ceilings are a lattice of large pine beams interspersed with dark green acoustic tile, and the walls are wood paneling and wainscoting. Lighting comes from classic frosted glass light fixtures.

There are outdoor metal tables and chairs on a deck outside the window. There's also a bar on the lower level that has a heated outdoor space and more black metal tables and chairs. The restaurant is classier in some ways then other McMenamin's but still has the familiar accents of whimsical paintings.

The beer selection is the customary McMenamin's beer choices. There is a fairly extensive American style menu with the addition of some local seafood choices. There is also a good sized parking lot.

The Sand Trap helps preserve a local historical location. While the building in a replacement for one that was destroyed by fire a few years ago. It services one of the oldest golf links west of the Mississippi established in 1892. This is a typical McMenamins with their standard selection of beers along with a few seasonal specials that I'm told are brewed at their Hillsboro Cornelius Pass location.

The standard McMenamins menu is enhanced by local seafood specials. They have music weekly and are a venue on the music tours. It a nice place to lay back and watch the golfers from the deck.

At times the service can be a bit slow.
