Romans' looks like any other bar from the outside. But as soon as you walk in, you know you're in Beer Heaven. 31 draught lines. Including a Delerium Tremens tower!! The bar itself is about 15 seats with a few tables across from it. The back room has a few tables. The walls are covered with both new and vintage brewery signs.
The real star at Romans is the beer. Mike put in a glycol system a couple years ago and religiously cleans his beer lines.
Current draughts include Racer 5, Bells Hopslam, 90 Minute and Tyrenena Hop Whore. And that's just some of the hoppier beers.

Mike Romans is a one of a kind. As has been said "dont' sass Mike Romans".

Also: Romans has never been a house. It was built as a stagecoach stop in 1885 (read the website). There are pictures of the bar through the years by the booths.

All in all, a very nice place to enjoy a good beer in the proper glass.

Amazing taps. We just left Roman's, and it was easily the best tap selection in Milwaukee (missed Sugar Maple this time around).

Friday night, there was a good crowd, fairly mixed age wise. Everyone seemed to be enjoying the awesome tap selection. I had an '08 vintage Expedition and Third Coast on tap as a nightcap...pretty sweet! Plenty more goodies, too many to choose from, Imperial Brown Goose, Torpedo, Duchesse, and a bunch i'm forgetting. Atmosphere seemed like a standard WI bar at first, yet it was stocked well with beer and cigar aficionados. The stucco walls were covered with an impressive collection of tin beer signs and breweriana. Mike was behind the bar, who was a friendly regular guy. A few booths were opposite the bar, with a few more in back. The only drawback was the smoke, but it was less smoky in the back.

Our experience was as genuine as it gets, and worth seeking out for sure. I regret not stopping at Roman's before, but I always showed up before 5pm when they open. Next time it will be an evening-only affair...

It's a house, it's a bar, it's a house bar... but I really REALLY don't think mike roman is going start playing house music anytime soon.

Selection here is a crapshoot, sans the crap. There are beers you should expect, that aren't on tap, and beers you really don't see and kinda wonder why the hell they're on tap at roman's and then you realize, it doesn't matter, it's on tap and I'm drinking it... thank you. I've heard the cellar here is crazy, but have never been down there. The taplist had a lot of good and beers that I haven't seen at our big 2 for a while if at all. You don't know what you're going to get when walking in, but it'll be good...

atmosphere was a bar, inside a house... beer stuff all over, really cool most of it, some old, but I think all of it was bought from the places, it seems like that's the roman's way... it's one of those where you know the guy to your left and right and most folks are local...

it's maybe a 10 person bar, then the stube, then a secondary seating area off the bar, ajacent to the cigars (small case of random, rolled and unrolled cigars for sale) then there's a nice patio out back for enjoying the beers... which we did.

service was good... thank god. but I've heard fun stories of folks that piss off mike behind the bar... respect the bartender for your own sake.

I like this place... it's like being at a friends house who has divorced his wife, left his kids, sold all their possessions and spent their college funds into a bar that was exactly what he envisioned.

this is worth a stop in your sugar maple, palm tavern, romans, terminal crawl in south milwaukee.
