I visited the Local Tavern, Saturday after the Great Taste. There was seating outside to the left of the enterance. The main dining area was just inside the front door, and the bar was in the back. We sat at the bar.

The menu looked like fairly standard bar food, but with a couple twists. The most notable thing may be the lack of deep-fried items. Yes, they have wings, but those are pan-fried, too. I had a burger with cheddar and sauteed onions. It hit the spot after a long day of sampling beer.

The beer selections are solid, but not outstanding. Spotted Cow and Oberon were served as well as a couple other WI brewers. It's a solid bar, but not a destination beer bar.

It will be difficult for a beer bar to stand out when it is sitting within throwing distance of Maduro, The Great Dane and Old Fashioned. Local Tavern seems to focus as much as possible on local offerings, which I find extremely interesting.

We stopped here as the second stop on a recent pub crawl around Madison. The beer selection isn't remarkable or extremely exciting, but there are definitely beers here that can be enjoyed.

If you've never been to Madison, you should probably check out Maduro and the Great Dane first, but since Local Tavern is so close, you could definitely stop here for a beer while you're walking by.

We did not try the food. Parking is limited to street parking or decks in the area.
