Charlie’s Ale House in Munster is a location I have been to on one previous occasion. I had not been impressed on my original visit and if anything I was even more dissappointed by my second visit.
We pulled into the parking lot just after 2pm on a Saturday afternoon. There were no cars in the parking lot and at first we thought the place was closed. Driving close to the doors we saw a sign that showed they should have been opened for several hours by then.
We parked and went inside. The employees, having no patrons, were all sitting at table on the restaurant side. The hostess came over and we told her we were going to sit in the bar. After a minute a bartender appeared and we ordered a couple of pints. I asked what should have been a simple question and the bartender did not have a clue.
The place is impressively decorated with a massive heavy wooden bar and they do have a few good tap and bottle selections.
While we were there another couple came in which doubled the number of people in bar. The woman ordered some sort of a martini, which the bartender made incorrectly and had it sent back to him.
Among the positives of this visit were ample parking, plenty of seats at the bar and no wait for a table.
Supposedly this place gets a lot of business from doctors, nurses, and other employees from the hospital across the street.
