The Horse & Plow is part of the large upscale Kohler resort complex in Kohler, WI, with two PGA quality golf courses. Easily accessible from I-43 about halfway between Milwaukee and Green Bay. I was fascinated to read while I was there that the building was originally built to provide housing to a large number of unmarried men, mostly German immigrants, who worked in the Kohler factory.

The atmosphere is warm and comfortable, with lots of well-worn wood, polished brass, and leaded glass. The beverage manager here has devoted a lot of time and energy to developing a very respectable collection of local and regional craft brews on tap, and a pretty impressive bottle collection for a bar located in a small town. Taps include selections from New Glarus, Capital, Tyranena, Ommegang, Sprecher, Great Dane and others. Bottles included lots of additional craft beers, domestic and imported. One of the highlights of my first visit was glancing through the bottle and seeing Founders KY Breakfast Stout listed under the "special reserve" bottles. In disbelief, I asked the bartender if they really had some in stock, and then happily ordered two to go.

The food is tasty, and the lunch menu includes a variety of sandwiches and other typical pub food. My only complaint about the place would be that the beer is served way too cold.

A very nice place, overall, with a good selection of quality beers. Definitely worth a stop if you are near the area or traveling through.
