I was in San Antonio for three days and of course had to do the River Walk while in town.

Waxy’s has a nice terrace upfront that overlooks the river and serves as an entry to the bar. The terrace seats about 40 and is very popular and a great place to people watch. As you enter the tavern, there is a long bar on your right and tables on the left. There are some nice large tables for groups. The bathrooms are in back, watch out for the dart players when you come out as it a little cramped in that part of the bar. Entertainment most nights is a plus.

They have about a dozen tap beers with the “highlights” being Shiner Bock, Guinness, Smithwicks, Blue Moon & Boddingtons. The rest are US & Mexican Macro Lagers and their light cousins.

They offer about 20 bottles with the only highlight being Shiner Black (good hot weather Dunkel).

The food is standard US interpretations of Irish cuisine. I think the best bet may be the fish & chips.

Service is friendly, but not really fast. I guess you could say they serve at Texas speed and I guess that’s not a bad thing.

You will not find a real “beer bar” on the walk, so you might as well try this place out!
