I've just got to say WOW for this place! This was my 4th stop on my little trip and I've got to say my wife and I were extremely impressed. This place was nearly impossible to find though and I'm glad we did find it. Don't rely on GPS or this sites placing because they will both get you lost. Call and ask them cross streets and or go online to see a placement on a map where they say they are. It took me an hour to find it going back and forth from one place to another. Not their fault mind you.
Anyway fist off I'll talk about the atmosphere. The brewery has a rather large seating area with many dinner tables and about as many bar tables. Plus bar seating. They also had outdoor seating and tiki torches which would be nice at night once it cools off. It has a very industrial feeling to it. Polished cement floors, open ceiling and all. Everything is painted to finish it off. This place is top on what I like for a brewery.
The service we got was great. She was a little quiet but she knew her stuff. Anytime I asked her about a beer she knew the answer. Not something you see to often. Especially when you have 14 beers on tap. Yes I said 14. I'll get to those in a minute. She put up with my wife and I for about 2 hours bringing out 1 flight of beer at a time as that's how we wanted to drink them.
OK so for the beer. There were 14 on tap so as soon as I walked in and saw I knew we'd be there for awhile. At least 5 of them were wits of different types. One of them was something I've never had before. It was a wit brewed with spirulina (look it up) It made the beer green. I won't go into to much detail about this beer. Go try it for yourself. There were 2 IPAs, a Berliner Weis, a sour, some sort of really strong red ale and a few others. Everyone was above par beer. Something that I could see this brewery growing from. That is if they want to grow. I've never had beer this good in Texas so I was shocked.
We ordered a pizza for lunch and oh yummy yummy! It was a buffalo chicken pizza. Made with red sauce and loaded with tons of buffalo chicken that seemed to be dripping with buffalo sauce. Also on it which was new to see for this style of pizza was shredded carrots and celery. Just like you'd be served if you ordered the wings. And then it was served also with your choice of ranch or blue cheese. We got the ranch. This pizza was also above par. I ate what my wife couldn't and cleaned the entire pan. Medium pizza mind you.
I've got to hand it to this place. This place was the best brewery I've been to in Texas thus far. I cannot wait to go back and see what one off beers they have next time.

The wife and I visited San Antonio for our son's USAF basic training graduation. The first time for both of us to SAT. I found Freetail by this website, and we decided to try it. The website map location was a little misleading, being marked on I-10, when it is really about 5 miles to the North on Loop 1604, but we found it. It was a Friday night around 8:00pm, there was a good crowd. The atmosphere is pleasant but noisy! Due to the bare concrete and hard-surface walls. Still not too bad. I tried a pint of the Tadarida Oscura and Buffalo Hump IPA. Both good brews. Complimented our BBQ-Chicken pizza.
The wife, not being a beer drinker, tried a pint of their lightest brew, I think was the La Rubia. She liked it. We would definitely return if we visit SAT again. I also purchased a monogram pint bar-ware for my collection.

Not many beers or breweries that I didn't like, but this was one of them. Visited tonight (Sunday) and sat at the bar. Staff let me sit, apologized then forgot me again. Did she think I wouldn't notice the guy that walked up and got immediate service when I waited...and waited??
Ordered a beer sampler, had read they had some dark small batches so was exited and drove slightly out of my way to go there on my way home to Austin. They were out of three I wanted to try...especially disappointed about the Lucinda Obscura(dark IPA)they had hyped on the website???. Maybe they should pay more attention to their website content. hbb660 was kinda okay.
Food was terrible. $9 for a rueben panini that had fake corned beef, come on. Bad service, short beer supply, awful food=I won't be returning!

I stopped in for a quick bite on my from NM to MD. I had a lunch sandwhich and their Cherry Stout which was awesome. Very dark red but still able to see through if you look real close.
They are into creating old styles with new twists. A few of their beers that were on tap were near the high ABV %, above 6% but they did have at least 2 sessionable beers.
Food is not typical pub grub as in almost upscale without the upscale price. An open dining area inside with a patio to the right of the entrance. You have the ability to take home their brews in growlers which is always a plus.
If I'm ever in San Antonio for more than just a lay over at the airport, I plan on visiting again to try some of their seasonals.

Located off Loop 1604 and Military Parkway, Freetail is in a rapidly developing area of San Antonio. The strip center it's in is only a couple of years old, and parts are still under construction. The interior is very casual with a lot of seating. The food isn't typical pub grub, with some upscale pizzas and sandwiches. The beer selection is pretty good, with the usual offerings, but leaning towards the Belgian end of things. Lunch is very affordable. And as soon as summer ends, the patio should be a great place to sit.
