Traveling the country on business and, as always, in search of the perfect beer. Perfect defined as the one sitting in front of me!

I found Columbia, SC to have only one micro brewery left so I had to find it. The Hunter Gatherer did not let me down. The food was different than the norm and very good. I only had the Pale Ale since I stated with it and loved it.

I look forward to the next time I come to town so I can be a little more adventurous with the beer tasting but suffice it to say, it would be worth your trip.

I stopped in here in the late afternoon for a beer and a bite to eat before heading out of town. The atmosphere would be sorta earthy and casual, I'd say, a nice change from the shiny places attracting the yuppies' golden ale and nacho money. If I lived in Columbia, this would be my hangout.

Only four beers, leaning in an English direction where hops are concerned. They do not do a sampler set up, but the bartender was willing to give me a splash of each to help me make my decision. I had the wheat, pale ale, ESB and organic brown ale. All good, session beers for everyday drinking. I ordered the ESB to go with my pan-seared duck breast with apricot jalepeno glaze, which was also tasty. The menu was limited, with interesting stuff of that ilk, but a little pricier than I'd expect, given the vibe of the place.

A good little pub, but no mindbending beer choices. Not sure if that has changed recently. My visit was just before SC popped their cap.
