Dieu du Ciel (God in the Sky) is one of the highest quality breweries in Eastern North America and a must stop when in Montreal. The brewpub is small and often crowded but the beer is outstanding. With strong Belgian abbey and French farmhouse influences paired with deep connections to the New England brewery scene, DDC is an amazing convergence of cultures in a glass. The Imperial Coffee Stout, Peche Mortel, and the cocoa vanilla stout, Aphrodisiaque are must tries, but definitely sample some of the more delicate and yeast molded ales before diving into their big stouts. DDC is certainly for the more adventurous beer drinker, i.e. you will not find anything remotely close to a American macro lager or blue moon. Just amazing beers in an incredible city, it can't get much better. The food looks great too. Bone up on your french pronounciation as well, it's pronounced KAS-KAHHD not KAS-KAID.

Dieu du ciel is located at the north end of the plateau, just off St Laurent. It's a short walk from the Laurier metro station. The beer here is fantastic and the draft list of their own beers is almost always quite long and varied, with a strong focus on Belgian and English styles. They also have Quebec ciders and meads. The food, while not spectacular, is cheap and good. The place is extremely popular though, and it's very difficult to get a seat Wed-Sat. Even so, it's my favorite pub in town.
