I stopped in Charleville last weekend with 3 other beer hounds. We stopped in on Friday afternoon and we had the place to ourselves! we sampled the Pilsner, Half-Wit Wheat, Amber Ale, IP, Oatmeal Stout, the 2009 and 2010 Barley Wines, and the Box of Chocolates Quad. (the Box of Chocolates was so good and unusual that I bought a growler to drink the rest of the weekend) Each one was better than the next!!! Charleville takes their beer seriously and you can taste it in each of their beers. The owner, Jack, took us on a tour of the brewery and spent quite some time talking beer with us. He even shared a little of the 2011 Barley Wine for us to sample and compare to the 2009 and 2010 vintages, even though it will not be ready for prime time for a few weeks! It was great and should be even better as it matures!

The atmosphere here is rustic and the scenery is beautiful. The owners and staff are very nice and extremely knowledgeable. The beer prices were very good. It is a little off of the beaten path, but it is well worth the drive.

If you are traveling with a wine lover, you both will be in heaven here as the wine that they make is also top notch.

This is some of the best microbrew that you will find in MO. A real hidden gem!

We visited the Charleville Vineyards and Microbrewery on Saturday. They have a rustic tasting room for their beers and wines. There is also a patio that overlooks the valley. We sat outside sipping beer on a sunny day and had a wonderful view of the valley below. Service was great and everyone we talked to was very friendly. I started with the sampler which included their Pilsner, Half-Wit Wheat, Amber Ale, IPA, Triple Wit, Oatmeal Stout, Barley Wine, and American Pale Ale. All were very good but I especially enjoyed the American Pale Ale. There’s a very limited food service, not sure they serve any hot food; they didn’t when we visited. We did have some salami and crackers as well as some smoked salmon. It’s quite a trek to get to the tasting room with several low spots in the dirt road that occasionally get washed out by the neighboring creek. All in all it was a very enjoyable experience and I can’t wait to go back.
