Urban Chestnut Brewery. This place was in an old mechanic shop, with the brew system visible through the large garage doors. The Tasting Room was concrete, solid wood chairs and tables, and a very nice wood bar. One group of beers they brew is the Reverence Series: more traditional ales and lagers like Zwickel, Pils, and Belgian Wit. They also have a Revolution Series that is aimed more at pushing the envelope: STLIPA (St. Louis Double IPA), Winged Nut (nice brown with real chestnuts,) and Old Tjikko spruce ale (Pine-Sol in a glass.) All the beers (minus Pine-Sol beer) were very tasty and there was something for each of us to enjoy. The tasting room was busy but not insane on a Monday night, but I bet this joint is crazy on the weekends. The brewery style was great and I'd love to spend more time here. No samplers, but they will serve a taste of something for free when you place your drink order. One of the bartenders steered us toward two more places we should visit tomorrow...showing off the collegial nature of the local beer scene.

We stopped in last weekend at this newly opened microbrewery. The brewmaster recently came over from a much larger brewery in town. They brew two series of beers; Revolution is their series of artistic American beers and the Reverence is their tribute to European beer styles. They have six beers on tap right now and a six-beer six-ounce each sampler of beers is $7.50. My favorite was the Half Crown, a session IPA with half the ABV and IBUs of a typical IPA, very tasty beer. Their other beers are the TBD, an unfiltered pilsner; Schnickelfritz, a Bavarian Weissbier; Harwood Myth, an English Brown Porter; Zucker Weisse is a nice Berlin Weisse; finally the Hopfen is a Bavarian IPA. All the beers were very nice and drinkable. They didn’t have food service just daily snacks. There are about 15 tables and 10-12 bar stools. Beers and snacks are available at the bar. There’s no table service except for clean up. The place has pretty simple décor, a large brick wall and several large windows. Most of the tables were full when we stopped by and it wasn’t too loud despite the concrete floor and open ceiling.
