This is one of my favorite brewpubs in St. Louis. The beer selection is hard to beat anywhere in the city. I'm a huge fan of the Bavarian Weizen and Dunkel Weizen. Both beers are authentic German style Weizens with nice banana clove flavors. They provide a beer for almost any palate, and aside from a few beers, I have enjoyed nearly all their beers. One thing that keeps me coming back regularly is that besides 6-8 beers that are always available, there are 6-8 new or seasonal beers every month or two.

For me it's all about the beer, but I've eaten here quite a few times. As an appetizer/snack I really like the fish tacos and the pub chips are great as well. Most of the food is typical pub fare that is good but not great.

The atmosphere has a local feel, but you don't need to be a local to have a good time. Have a seat at the bar and enjoy the fine brews with a couple of friends and you'll realize that you've been there for a couple of hours and don't want to leave. I recommend this place to any beer fanatic.

Unfortunately this was my last stop of the evening and I had a pretty aggressive day following. I managed to have a couple of three pints here. The staff was great, extremely knowledgeable. Very friendly crowd in the pub. Its small but very cozy. The outdoor seating area was very nice. I have to say their IPA and Maibock were some of the best I have ever tasted. I did not eat there but looking at the menu it looked like a nice balance of pub fare. On another note they distill there as well a brew.

Beer selection: If you want to go purely by the number of beers offered, this brewpub is in a league of its own. The bartender told me they keep at least twelve house brews on tap at all times. You want it? They got it. They seemed to have a good mix... malty beers, hoppy beers, high-gravity, low-gravity. Quality wise, the beers I had were very solid, though I didn't come across a beer that really blew me away. At the same time, I didn't come across one that disappointed either.

Atmosphere: Typical brewpub... small but friendly. I was there rather early so the staff was just coming in, but they all seemed to enjoy working there.

Service: My food came quickly and my server was friendly and knowledgeable.

Food: Good selection of pub fare; my brisket sandwich was excellent. On a side note, the menu had an excellent page on beer and food pairing.

Overall: Schlafly seems to get all the play in St. Louis (and deservedly so), but I would recommend paying a visit to Square One as well if you get a chance.

Nice place, decent food. The beers are good but not spectacular. Not very agressive. For example, the belgium IPA is a nice fusion beer, with a little hint of belgium flavor, not a srong hop character. The pale ale is light and refreshing, but not very hoppy. The stout was heavy, but not much flavor. Nice old bar, nice patio. More of a neighborhood pub than a beer place, but overall, a nice place.
