Blue Hills Brewery is located in a one-story white brick and cinderblock building, a commercial park with several businesses. Around back are large doors which open to the brewery, and inside you can see their brewing vessels and pallets of cans for their beer. There is limited parking in front near the entrance. Near the front door is a circular barrel sign and an open flag is flying. Their small tasting room is a combination hospitality bar and office space. It has a short 4-chair wooden bar in one corner. This is not a pub, and they do not sell pints of their beer, but the pleasant staff is happy to share samples of any of their beer. When I visited they had 10 different varieties for sale. To the right of the bar is a refrigerated case with 22-ounce bombers of their bottled beer to go. They also sell pre-filled growlers of some of their seasonal beer. On the back wall is a large window which looks on to the brewery floor. In the center are midsize stainless steel brewing vessels, and on the left are several stainless steel fermenters. The place is cluttered and there are many kegs around the brewery floor. I was very impressed with the diversity and sophistication of their beers, especially their stronger IPA's. They have been open since 2009 and have refined several nice recipes. The place is not designed for hanging out, but I highly recommend stopping by to sample their beer and take some to go.

Now have been around for 3 or 4 years, the beers are continually getting better and better. They make a wide range of brews and have some good and some not. The Red Baron and OctFest are both strong beers. They have limited hours, but great prices on growler fills. They do have limited hours.
If you get a chance to tour the facilty you should. They are growing and I always think that it is cool as a beer geek to see smaller breweries and how they make it all happen is such a small area. If you Ask... They will show you around the brew house!

Solid spot.
Unassuming hosts, sound beers.
My wife and I stopped by on a Saturday after hiking with our dog. We have had a few of their beers in the past and enjoyed the Black Hops the most. We hung out there for about 45 minutes and tasted their complete line - Hefe all the way to an imperial. Black Hops again the favorite along with the Pub Draft IPA. Total of 7 samples, 6 from bottles and 1 from a keg in the back. Good portions too.
Yes, as mentioned in the other reviews, they have limited hours. Well, they are small and have limited resources. Not a big deal.
Overall, totally worth the trip down (about 20 minutes from Boston). Make it a day trip - Hike the Blue Hills Reservation and come back with a few 22oz bottles for only $3 each.

This is a small little jem with great access of the freeways, I've been going to bhb since april to stock my kegerator, cant go wrong with price. True the hours are limited to friday and saturday, but thats fine for me. You can walk in and sample their brews, and walk out with bombers, growlers, kegs.
Their black hops is whats currently flowing at my place, it has a nice nutty front with a smooth caramel/malty middle with a well rounded hoppy taste at the end.
Prior to that, the ipa was in the kegerator, and before that the imperial.
Needless to say i find their beers tasty, and never have a problem with their hours or the fact that thy have their own growlers. It's just marketing.

This is a small brewery-only operation in a quasi-industrial suburb south of Boston. I used to really like going here when i went to the nearby IKEA, the brewer himself was there to chat with and they have a fantastic IPA (well balanced and not too hoppy) and in season had a great Octoberfest.
Even better, they filled any growlers since they didn't sell their own. That policy has ended, and they now make you use theirs, although if the price I was given on the phone is accurate - $2 - it's very reasonably priced. $7 for a fill, also very decent for this area.
Unfortunatley, I have enough growlers and because of their limited hours (friday and saturday afternoons) and horrendous traffic on 95, I will not be going here any more. Too bad - another microbrewery getting a little bit more corporate.
