linkThis is a tough one for me to evaluate. They specialize in spontaneously fermented beers. They use big, open copper pans to cool the wort and to collect whatever airborne yeast (and bacteria) settles in. As such, their beers have very distinctive characteristics. If you’re a Bud Light fan, this is probably not going to work for you. My wife and I tried a double IPA and a Porter brewed with Sorghum. They were certainly unlike any other beers we’ve had recently.
They have a killer location with ample indoor space, an expansive deck and an adjacent field that was being used for football & frisbees on our visit.
Pen Druid is well worth a visit if you’re looking for something out of the ordinary. One note: the current location on the Beer Mapping map is incorrect. Pen Druid is about a half mile NE of downtown Sperryville.
