We were making a trip back from LA to the BayArea and decided to make a little side trip to Bakersfield for lunch. We found the place fairly easy. It looked somewhat rundown from the outside and also on the inside. They have an interesting collection of motorcycles up on displays all around the place. I found myself reading some of the placards to find out what they were. I was kind of confused as to what they had to do with the brewery but it was somewhat interesting. Several pinball machines and a couple of flat screen TVs were playing sports but thankfully muted with captions on.
The beers came in your typical sample holder with little stickers marking the locations of the beers. There were 7 samples with one of them being a special release (IPA). To add to the run down look their "best seller" Triple Hop Red Ale (said so in the description!) was just an handwritten sticker. The rest were nice professional looking little labels. Both of their wheat beers were delicious with the fruit version (Raspberry Wheat) being subdued enough to even be enjoyed by men! My favorite was the Centennial Ale and even ordered a pint before hitting the road.
Lengthwise is a bit off the beaten path but worth seeking out. It has a nice L-shaped bar in one corner of the large dining room. There were 7 house brews on tap when I visited plus a cider and guest taps from Mendocino and Kern River. I enjoyed both the Crude Porter and the Triple Hop Red. Our designated driver(DD) enjoyed the house roasted coffee and picked up a couple bottles of their special spices. They have a separate tap area for filling pigs or growlers and have converted a large number of customers as evidenced by the array of competitor’s growlers hanging from the ceiling. One customer volunteered that he travels 40 miles to fill up. The menu is pretty much typical pub fare with a few unique entrees added and there is plenty of parking in their lot.
