linkMonteith's is a bit of a curiosity: a microbrewery owned by a giant multinational and making the same beers by hand as are made up in the big factory in Auckland.
Sited in a low group of sheds on the edge of this sleepy town, the brewery welcomes visitors and gives a thorough tour of the brewing and packaging process as well as the brand's turbulent history. There's plenty of time to discuss the hows and whys of global consolidation over a few generously poured samples in the tasting room.
Look, there's basically nothing else to do in Greymouth. If you're stuck here, before you go and get loaded on Monteith's beer the least you can do is call in here and watch them make it.
