linkWith only 3 taps, this does not qualify as a true beer bar but at least there is Kona beer on tap and a reasonable bottle selection to choose from. The Small Bait bar is situated at the end of a large open dining area with a windowless view out across the top of the Keauhou Shopping center and encompassing a full sweep of the north Kona coast. There are about 20 seats at the bar and a few tall tables but the bulk of the seating is at normal tables in the dining area. The whole restaurant has a patio dining feel. When I visited, I enjoyed a Longboard draft and a bottle of Rogue Dead Guy Ale at the bar.
The food menu includes a very nice array of locally inspired appetizers and entrees. Sam Choy is a well known chef in the islands and used to operate Big Aloha Brewery as a sidelight to his restaurant on Oahu. There is a small parking lot out front and the Keauhou Trolley serves the shopping center but it s a steep climb up the drive to Sam's Lanai.
